Facebook hack exposes personal data of 50 million users
facebook inc hack exposes personal data of 50 million usersFacebook hack exposes personal data of 50 million usersMaybe you were like me and woke up to your Facebook account forcibly logged out this Friday. Now we know more about why. On Friday, Facebook announced that a cyber attack earlier this week exposed the personal information of up to 50 million users, and as a safety measure, around 90 million users were being logged out and asked to re-enter their passwords. Fifty million people were definitely impacted and 40 million accounts were logged out as a precautionary step, the company said.Facebooks said the hack exploited the companys code introduced in July 2017 to let users upload Happy Birthday videos. The code was associated with theView Asfeature that lets people see what their profiles look like to other people. This allowed them to steal Facebook access tokens which they could then use to take over peoples accounts, Guy Rosen, Facebooks vice president of product managemen t, said in a statement. Access tokens are the equivalent of digital keys that keep people logged in to Facebook so they dont need to re-enter their password every time they use the app. The data vulnerability allowed users to gain control of a Facebook account directly without needing a password.Following the cyber attack, Facebook said it fixed the vulnerability in its code, temporarily suspended the View As feature, and has informed law enforcement.Facebook data breach is the latest scandal for the embattled companyFacebook said there is no need to change your password, but you may as well log out if you have not been asked to already to be safe. So far, there are many troubling unknowns about what exactly happened. Facebook said it does not know the identity of the hackers or the origin of where it took place, and it does not know the full scope of what information the hackers accessed or misused. This is not comforting news Through a Facebook account, you can potentially learn a lot about a persons friends, posts, contact information, and other private information you do not want to be made public to a hacker. The data breach occurs at a particularly tumultuous time for the social media giant.Facebook is already facing user trust issues after 87 million Facebook users had their personal information exposed by political firm Cambridge Analytica. The scandal was a final break for many, resulting in a DeleteFacebook campaign.Nevertheless, Facebook is still enormously popular. More than two billion people entrust their data to the social network each month. After the Cambridge Analytica scandal, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg promised that Facebook would do better. We have a responsibility to protect your data, and if we cant then we dont deserve to serve you, hesaid earlier this year. I know it takes longer to fix all these issues than wed like, but I promise you well work through this and build a better service over the long term. But people may not want to wait around for this better service. After each scandal, users become more aware of how vulnerable their information can be to hacks. It remains to be seen how many people still want to stick around to see if Facebook still deserves their trust.

How to stay out of the office politics and do your job
How to stay out of the office politics and do your jobHow to stay out of the office politics and do your jobIs it possible to just go into work, do your job, and stay out of the office politics and cliquey stuff?Yes, Ive made a career out of it. And heres how that goes, including the ups and downs.Work hard, and finish work fast. (This is how you set the table for what Im about to tell you. This reputation helps you get away with a lot of stuff Ill explain below)I tend to avoid, or even find a way to not go to meetings. Because 95% of corporate meetings are puffery to see and be seen. They accomplish little to nothing a good chat or schmelzglas conversation can get done. Also, they drain energy and always go past the time allotted. If management calls you on it, tell them you need to finish the billable work, you know, the stuff that makes money. By skipping stupid meetings, you may fall behind in the corporate trail to be promoted, but youll get to keep doing the doer work without b eing bothered.Lets pause here to combine the two points above into what I like to call, The Mexican Standoff. Management will pass you over for promotions based on silly face time. But, the benefit is, you smashing deadlines makes you necessary. So youll probably get average to above average raises. But, you get left alone and get to avoid social events, see or be seen meetings, and other corporate events. You get known as the doer of sh-t quickly.Say hello to people onceIf they ignore you or just look right through you, you avoid them going forward. Youll gain a reputation of quiet and keeps to himself. While this hurts you for large promotions, you get to skip all the, Will they say hi, do they want to talk today? garbage many people worry about in Corporate Cubefarms. If management ever asks you about it, tell them how you tried to say hello in the hallways, but corporate zombies looked right through you or ignored you. This gains you automatic favor, because corporations get the spotlight turned back on them. Why arent people saying hello? Why are they walking around like zombies? Plus, you are justified in not bothering in trying to be social anymore. You tried once, and if they want to be social, now its the other guys turn to try. I have more important things to do.When I walk in the building every day, I have a list of people who Ill say hello to, and a list of people I walk right by to ignore. Unless they reach out and say hello first. I walk straight to my desk and get work done. No stopping by cubes to ask how peoples fake weekend went. No coffee and chit-chat. I march to my desk, open the energy drink, fire up the computer, work, and go home. Thats it.Never, ever, ever talk about social life with these people99% of them will use these details against you. Be boring, ON PURPOSE. Mention boring family trips if asked, keep your social life discussions boring. Why? To avoid resentment and jealousy. And, you remain invisible, so you can just do your wor k and leave early.Avoiding drama means avoiding HRNever talk about religion, politics, or anything sexual. Ever. Couple this with your deadline smashing reputation, you get to do what you want. Your broadcasted social graces should remain boring at all times. You may go home and be a superstar, go on exotic vacations, and have a great life outside the work. Never broadcast thisEver. It invites jealousy and envy. Remain invisible.Sometimes, leave work early, or come in lateRemember my first bullet point above? Smashing deadlines grants you exclusions youll appreciate down the road. EI might leave two hours early to go work on a side business. I might leave two hours early to go spend time with my daughter. Are the other zombies upset? Maybe. But, remember, I smashed deadlines. Also, changing up your schedule a bit keeps the zombies off your back. theyll sit wondering, why is he late today? or Wow, he left early today. More importantly, they learn less about you. When you come in and leave the same time every day, zombies start to think they know you, and want to chit-chat. This is a no-no. Because chit-chat leads to HR complaints, hurt feelings, and hour-long gabfests about nothing. Your job is to be invisible. Smash deadlines, and get out to go do other things you enjoy. The goal is to get things done, but avoid taking on a huge workload. Because if they arent going to promote you, then whats the point? The bonus of this is, you, as the doer and finisher of stuff, get to avoid corporate politics, drama, and other unpleasantries.P.S. But Don, you may ask What if your manager calls you into their office and asks you about being more social and seen? What if they ask you to take on more work?Ah, this is simple. Remind them of all the work youve finished, and remind them how a cost of living raise isnt conducive to taking on even more work, especially compared to what you get done versus your coworkers. You see, if your average coworker in your role gets three thi ngs done, and you get five to six, then you have leverage. Your boss might ask you to do 7, which includes a bunch of drama and a whole lot of headaches. You skip it, or go around it. If they push, remind them you do more than any of your coworkers. They can either pay you more, or leave it at that. I use a line which is helpful for this. This aint a charity, and I sure as hell aint Mother TheresaBe cordial with your boss, but push back when they try to extract additional work out of you, remind them of your non-promotion. Always remind them when necessary. This pushes them back to be happy with the deadline smashing productivity you already do.Its at this point where youve reached the Mexican standoff conclusion. If the boss tries to get you to do even more without promoting you, you have the option to leave. Besides, the boss knows you smash deadlines. Why interrupt that with corporate politics and drama?Don Sevcik is the president of MathCelebrity and author of One Second Math.Th is article first appeared on Quora.

How to Answer Job Interview Questions About Your Resume
How to Answer Job Interview Questions About Your ResumeHow to Answer Job Interview Questions About Your ResumeInterviewers frequently starta jobinterview by asking you to provide an overview of your employment experience. This will often take the form of a requestsuch as Can you walk me through your resume? Typically, candidates will recount theirwork experiences in bestellungfrom the past to present, and focus their presentation on theirjob titlesand the names of their employers. However, interviewees taking this approach dont tell employers much that they dont already know - and miss out on a critical opportunity to frame their case positively. Rather than summarizing the facts of your resume, consider this question an opportunity to highlight the aspects of your resume that show that youre a great match for the role.Use the time to tell the interviewer about your achievements and what you accomplished at each position youve held. Be Selective About What You Share Take advantage of this opportunity to create a favorable impression early on in the interview by leading the interviewer through your resume in a more selective manner. Start by highlighting the most compelling elements of your experience first. You dont need to share everything you have done at each job, describe every class you took, or go through every bullet point on your resume. Remember, the interviewer is likely holding a copy of your resume during the interview and will have a broad sense of the facts around each job, such as your job title, the company name, and the basics of your role. Aim to speak for a few minutes when you have to answer this question, but dont talk for so long that your answer becomes tedious. Avoid rambling or delving into minutia and try to tell a coherent story in your response. The best way to accomplish this is to take some time to get ready ahead of time. Prepare by analyzing the most critical requirements for the job for which youre interviewing. Then select t he aspects of your work, academic, and volunteer history which best demonstrate that you have thequalifications and experience to excel in that position. Remember, this is the time to show off what youve done. Focus on Your Accomplishments and Skills Rather than a bland rendition of your position titles and responsibilities, cite key accomplishments andreference the skillsthat enabled you to achieve those successes. Be aya to mention how you impacted thebottom linein those roles, and how you added value to your employer. Did you help the company save money or work on a team that finished a major project? Be ready to explain these achievements in a succinct but interesting manner. Try to present your points in the form of stories that portray problems you solved and challenges you met. This part of the job interview is also a great opportunity to explain job movement as it relates to your career. For instance, you might say, Working at ABC Company taught me a great deal about pro duct marketing, but I ultimately made the move to XYZ Company because it offered me the opportunity to manage a team. Working in this kind of leadership and team-building environment is a real priority for me. You Dont Have to Cover Everything on Your Resume Feel free to leave out jobs that are not relevant or impressive, and its fine to deviate from a chronological presentation. At the end of your presentation, the interviewer should have a clear understanding of five to seven assets in your hintergrund that will enable you to perform at a high-level in the job for which youre interviewing. Be Sure to Get Your Facts Straight Its important to be accurate when youre recounting yourwork history. Forgetting about when and where you worked at any given time may not seem like something that might happen. But when youre stressed about interviewing, it can be easy to forget the exact details of youremployment history. Review your resume before you go in for your interview. Its also a good idea to bring a copy of your resume with you to the interview. If youre not sure about what your interviewer needs to know, review this guide onsharing your work historyduring job interviews.

Duties Canine rehabilitation therapists are responsible for creating and implementing therapy plans to increase an animals mobility and minimize any pain they may be experiencing as a result of an injury or a chronic condition. The therapist works through the treatment plan with the dog, making adjustments as necessary to ensure that progress is being made in each session. Therapists may be assisted by veterinary technicians that have achieved a related certification, such as the Certified Canine Rehabilitation Assistant (CCRA) designation, or assistants that have extensive practical experience in therapy work. The one thing that changed my perspective on happiness
The one thing that changed my perspective on happinessThe one thing that changed my perspective on happinessI studied Psychology at Cornell College but when I was in school, there was not a class for positivity - positivity psychology was a new term for me. Its currently one of the fruchtwein popular classes at Harvard, and I learned about it from Cleo Wade, the author ofHeart TalkPoetic Wisdom for a Better Life,at a panel I moderated at the Women Empower Expo where she was the keynote speaker. I picked up her book after hearing her speak and was already finished reading it by the time I went to her conversation at Politics and Prose, one of my favorite local bookstores in Washington, DC. There are some people that I know I would be friends with if we had the chance to spend time together, and Ill admit, the entire panel was a group of women that I would havelovedto have dinner with. During the conversation, Cleo mentioned the Harvard class and she shared something that stuck with m ethe key to happiness is forgiving yourself. It sounds so simple, but like many things in life, its easier said than done. Here are a few key things to remember when you are working on forgiving yourselfAdmit how you got it wrongYou cannot make amends if you dont believe that you did anything wrong and take ownership of what you did. You have to deal with it, face what you did, and the situation that was created by what you did. We are all menschenwrdig and we are all going to make mistakes - remember that nothing you do will change what happened and that you did the best that you could with the tools that you had at the time. Say it with me, I cannot undo the past. Say it again and again until you believe it.You can process what happened, give yourselves better tools for the future, pack it into a box, or rewrite it in your mind, but you can never change the past. What those things can do is allow you to let go of the pain of the past and allow you to learn the lesson that the past has to offer. What will not help you is beating yourself up for it over and over again. So you did something wrong, by accident or possibly knowing better. What is done is done, now lets deal with the feelings you have built up around it and forgive yourself.Prepare for a restart and try againWe all are our own worst critics, but beating ourselves up does not help us live in our light and be our best selves. Punishing yourself for the past only blocks you from your own happiness in the present. You are allowed to grow and to become a better person. Comparison is the thief of joy, so do not set your sights on anything other than being better than you were yesterday - if you focus on that, you will feel so much better than if youre just worrying about what other people have. In order to live each day better than the last, you have to stop looking backwards.Make amends with others and yourself, keep what you have learned, and let go of the rest.Think about what happened and figure out what limiting beliefs you have built about yourself regarding it. Often we go to the very worst thoughts about a situation - if youve had four jobs and lost two, you might start to believe that you cannot keep a job, despite evidence to the contrary in the other two jobs you kept. Just because you have lost jobs in the past does not mean that you can never keep a job just because you have not found a relationship that fits, does not mean that you will be alone forever. The only way that these things become truth is if you start to believe them into happening. The things that you believe have power because you believe them. Let go of those negative beliefs to give yourself room to grow.A restart is not a redoWhile its important to forgive yourself, there are two things you have to remember others may continue to hold on because you cannot control how anyone else thinks or feels, and forgiveness is not permission to do it again. You cant force someone elses forgiveness, and just beca use you apologize doesnt mean that the person who feels slighted will accept it however, that does not mean have to continue to punish yourself for whatever happened. The world is a better distributionspolitik when we all have space to be better people than we were yesterday. In order to grow as people, we have to learn from our mistakes and our past. We have to forgive ourselves even when others might not. Forgiveness is an important and necessary part of building a loving and trusting relationship with yourself. The best thing that you can do to show your sincerity is to continue to grow as a person and to be the best version of yourself everyday. You (and the world) deserve the best you have to offer. What happened before will never change - but you can. We are evolving, changing and growing constantly, the only thing that stops us from growing is our own limiting beliefs. An old dog can definitely learn new tricks - it might take a little longer, but if you believe it, you can achieve it. So believe that you are wonderful, worth, brilliant, and so loved - because why waste your time believing anything else. If for now its only you loving yourself, that is a wonderful place to start, because you can teach other people how to love you too. This article was originally published on TheEverygirl.com.

Stand While You Work - Spark Hire
Stand While You Work - Spark HireSome have called it the sitting crisis, the phenomenon that rocked the working world somewhere during the 19th century and placed us all in chairs at our desks, and more recently, in chairs in front of computers. Over the last few decades, however, companies have forsaken their comfortable, ergonomically sound desk chairs in favor of their own two feet. When research began to show that sitting for extended periods of time could make employees more susceptible to certain health risks, the chair was forsaken, employees were put on their feet with adjustable desks, and some companies even invested in desks with built-in treadmills to keep their employees moving. There are real benefits to employees standing while they work instead of sitting. In a Boston Globe article, writer Kathleen Pierce reports that studies at the Mayo Clinic and the University of Missouri have found that, desk workers who stood during the workday had lower levels of stress and anxie ty, increased flow of blood and oxygen to the brain, and the release of endorphins. The same reports, as well as individuals who have experience working while standing first-hand, say that theyre more productive, energized, and are less susceptible to the mid-day slump. Being on your feet forces you to shift your weight more often, resulting in more movement and calories burned. Without a chair, youre less likely to assume poor posture when you get tired, making standing an ergonomically safe choice. But like any good thing, there are potential downfalls that should be addressed. Blogger Lex Friedman exchanged his sekretariat chair for a standing office, and inquired about the benefits as well as potential hazards of the switch I exchanged e-mail messages with Professor Alan Hedge, the Director of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Laboratory at Cornell University. He wrote Standing all day is associated with increased risks of back pain, varicose veins, foot pain and cardiovascular pr oblemsthe heart has to work harder. The best strategy is some of both.Especially if youre with a company that cant afford the switch to standing desks, opt instead to encourage your employees to move about regularly. Taking frequent breaks to walk around the office, refill a water bottle, or chat with a coworker has resulted in similar increased levels of productivity. Studies have even proven that moving around during the day can lead to a slimmer waistline. Another solution might be to encourage employee activity in more innovative ways. Pierce also found that some companies, such as Chitika Inc., a mobile advertising agency, have provided ways for their employees to be active throughout the workday by bringing exercise to the workplace. Employees are offered a 3 p.m. recess to play kickball or encouraged to participate in yoga at on-site yoga classes. The desk chair has been called the enemy, but for most of us, its where we conduct business from everyday. And like anything potenti ally hazardous taking a phone call while driving, seeing the dentist, or ice skating employees should be aware of the risks and given the opportunity and resources to counteract them.Do you stand while you work? Have you implemented any changes in the office to combat the sitting crisis? Leave us a comment below.IMAGE Courtesy of Flickr by brianandjaclyn

This is the car that will get you the most hits on your dating profileThis is the car that will get you the most hits on your dating profileTheres no real consensuson what works in a dating profile. According to recent research, having a sheep in your profile picture boots message response rates by 328%. Another review of over 1,500 online dating profiles, revealed that profile pictures that feature pilates increase inbound messages by a baffling 1,347%. The newest study, conducted by our friends at Zooskhas uncovered yet another curious dating app trend People are243%more likely to respond to your messages if your profile picture contains a Jeep. Not just any jeep will do. Zoosks analyst of more than fifteen 1000000 online dating photos of men and women outs the Sedan as the champion of response rates. Profile pictures that featured Toyotas, in particular, were 73% more successful than other Jeep shotsas far as inbound messages were concerned.Follow Ladders on FlipboardFollow Ladders magazines on Flipboard covering Happiness, Productivity, Job Satisfaction, Neuroscience, and morePeople binnenseemed to like Sedans as well, as they were associatedwith a 47% increase to reply rates. BMWs boasting a 149% isnt all that surprising, though I cant say the same for the success rate of Vans, the universal shorthand for stay away. In any case, pictures that featured a Van were found to be 61% more likely to earn response rates.Whatever you do, make sure your profile picture does not feature a hatchback because no one likes a sensible hatchback. angeschlossen profiles that feature hatchbacks were linked to a 15% decrease in response rates from would-be suitors. While Zoosks data suggests, it doesnt hurt to mention your Jeep or truck in your bio, babbling on about your van inyour bio will cost you a 72% decrease in inbound messages even if profile pics that featured vans were 61% more likely to receive inbound messages. Mentioning your truck, however, will increase your inb ound messages by 48%. Mentioning your BMW, Nissan, Land Rover, Subaru, Prius, Ford or Mercedes all accounted for inbound message increases ranging from 11% to 79%.If youre a man looking to meet a woman, dont reference your Honda, or your Chevrolet, or your Ferrari, or your Tesla, or your Lexus, or your Mazda, asmentioning these vehicles, in particular, were found to gain the least responses from female users. Oh, and mentioning your hatchback deterred female users the most. Dont take a picture with your hatchback, and dont tell anyone you own a hatchback. Get rid of your hatchback.Despite the BMW statistic, none of the other numbers imply financial status to be a predictor as far as inbound messages are concerned. Sales Tax Facts for Book Authors
Sales Tax Facts for Book AuthorsSales Tax Facts for Book AuthorsSales tax is a fact of retail life for book writers in many U.S. states. And collecting and remitting proper ausverkauf tax on books is serious business, with many states (and countries) cracking down oninternet retailers who sometimes circumvented the rules governing tax collection. Depending on the state, authors who sell their own books directly to readers may be obligated to collect and remit schlussverkauf taxes to their state tax authorities and perhaps out-of-state authorities as well, depending on where you do business. If youre a self-published author selling your own books, heres what you need to know Sales Tax Collection Laws Differ by State If you intend to sell your own books in any capacity - at book fairs, trade shows, off your author website, etc. - you need to know what rules and regulations apply to you in the locations where you will be selling your books. For example, New York State requires tha t nearly every person who sells taxable, tangible personal property or taxable services (even if you make sales from your home) must register with the Tax Department before beginning business. However, New York State does make exceptions for what it terms a casual sale, an occasional or isolated sales situation. So, if youre not generally in the business of selling books to the consumer and you sell your books for three days a year or less and make less than $600 from the sale, you are exempted from collecting and remitting sales tax. For example, if you sell your books for one day at the Brooklyn Book Festival and only make $250, you dont have to remit taxes. If you make $1,000, youre liable for taxes on the sales you make over $600, or $400. If you sell your book at a different New York fair thats four days long, youre obligated to collect and remit sales taxes on the sales during that fourth day. And, of course, theres a form for doing that. General Guidelines for Collecting T axes Whatever state youre in, here are some general guidelines for collecting taxes Assess your potential for selling your own product. Will you attend trade shows? Sell books at speaking engagements or signings? Are you selling (and shipping) your book directly to the consumer through the internet? Note that if youre selling your self-published book through a dealer at a trade show, an internet retail entity, such as Amazon.com or bn.com, or a publishing service acting as a retail entity, such as Blurb or Lulu.com, the retail entity making the sale is responsible for collecting sales tax. Investigate the state and local rules for collecting and remitting sales tax. This applies if youre participating in events and selling your books directly in other locations as well. Make sure to understand what sales taxes youre responsible for collecting or engage a vendor to sell your books for you and take care of that. Check with your accountant and with the states department of taxation an d finance (or your equivalent government agency), as well as with any states or countries in which you intend to do business. Many of these state agencies have robust and informative websites. If necessary, register the proper paperwork with your state tax commission in order to become an approved tax-collecting vendor (in New York State, you would register to get what is called a Sales Tax Certificate of Authority).Make sure to collect the correct amount of sales tax when you sell your books, keep a record of transactions, and give the book buyer a receipt that indicated the amount of sales tax he or she paid.Remit the sales tax collected to the appropriate tax authority on a timely basis. For example, some states require businesses to remit taxes quarterly. In the casual sale example above, New York State requires that the taxes are remitted within 20 days.
